Vice President of USAI: Said H. Ahmed

Said Hassan Ahmed was born in Gelinsoor, Somalia. At the age of 11, his
family moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts. He worked diligently to learn the
English language and US customs and culture. During his years at Boston
English High School, Said began to demonstrate exceptional running talent.
During his sophomore year, Said became the National High School 800m
champion. He also set many facility, state and New England track records,
many of which remain unbroken. Said’s athletic and scholastic efforts
earned him a full scholarship to the University of Arkansas, a track and
field powerhouse. As an Arkansas Razorback, Said was a standout
student-athlete, graduating in 2006 with an AB in Sociology and criminal
justice.
Said served as a team leader and helped to lead the Razorbacks to many
championships including the Penn Relays, Southeastern Conference, and
National championships. He was a seven-time All-American, a four-time SEC
champion and an eleven-time All-SEC selection. He also became the only
male athlete in the Southeastern Conference to win the mile two years in a
row.
In 2006, Said signed a contract with Nike, Inc., to compete as a
professional athlete on the international track and field circuit. As a
professional runner, he has set new personal bests in the 800m (1:45.),
the 1500m (3:35) and the mile (3:52). He was also a 2004 and 2008 US
Olympic Trials finalist.
Shortly after university graduation, Said returned to Boston to live,
train and support his community. He is focused on reaching out to the
local Somali community to inspire and assist young men and women in
pursuit of their dreams. One of his roles is as Vice President / COO for
the United Somali Alliance, which is led by a great leader and
spokesperson, Hashim Siraji.
Said is also a City of Boston employee, working as an assistant unit
leader at Charlestown High School.
